Duke Energy is preparing for potential severe weather in Indiana, including strong thunderstorms and damaging winds, which may lead to widespread outages this weekend. The company emphasizes the importance of preparation.

“A critical part of being safe in severe weather is being prepared,” said Clint Carnahan, general manager of emergency preparedness at Duke Energy. “We do regular storm planning throughout the year, and we want our customers to be prepared as well so they can react quickly during a storm.”

Customers are advised to keep mobile phones charged and have supplies like flashlights, batteries, bottled water, nonperishable foods, and medicines ready. Those with special needs or electric-powered life support equipment should plan for possible extended power outages.

Outages can be reported by texting OUT to 57801 (standard charges apply), using the Duke Energy mobile app, visiting duke-energy.com/outages, or calling 800.343.3525. Updates on restoration efforts can be received by enrolling in Outage Alerts or visiting Duke Energy’s interactive outage map online.
