Potomac Edison introduces tools for Maryland residents to manage rising summer energy bills

Potomac Edison, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., is offering programs and tools to help Maryland customers manage their energy use as the transition from spring to summer often leads to increased energy costs.

Jim Myers, FirstEnergy President for West Virginia and Maryland, stated, “We know that managing costs is important to our customers, and we’re committed to arming them with the information and tools to help them take control of their energy budget. After a frigid winter that drove up electricity costs for many, we want to be sure customers are aware of the many options available to manage monthly electric bills and how to use energy wisely with the hot summer months around the corner.”

The company offers several initiatives including Budget Billing, known as the Average Payment Plan (APP), which spreads annual costs across 12 months. Customers can log into their online account at firstenergycorp.com/login to determine eligibility.

Another tool available is the Analyze Usage Tool. By using this feature in MyAccount, customers receive customized insights into their energy usage patterns. Additionally, Potomac Edison provides Bill Assistance Programs and Payment Plans for those struggling with payments.

Simple tips for improving home energy efficiency include weatherstripping doors and windows, maintaining HVAC systems, changing furnace filters regularly, strategically placing thermostats away from drafts or heat sources, turning off unused lights, keeping air registers clear of obstructions, and closing fireplace dampers when not in use.
