Duke Energy Florida and its foundation have announced a donation of $75,000 to Habitat for Humanity organizations in the state. This increases their total investment in affordable housing in Florida to over $200,000 since 2020.
"Habitat for Humanity builds homes, communities and hope," stated Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida's state president. She emphasized the importance of partnerships with non-profit organizations like Habitat for Humanity in improving community vitality and significantly impacting individual lives.
The Duke Energy Foundation has allocated grants to support new homes and workforce training. The beneficiaries include Habitat for Humanity of Seminole County and Greater Apopka with $5,000, Habitat for Humanity of Lake Sumter with $20,000, and Habitat for Humanity Tampa Bay Gulfside with $30,000. An additional $20,000 was donated to support operations of these non-profit organizations.
"We appreciate the support from companies that recognize the significance of affordable homeownership and the need to assist hard-working families within our communities," said Mike Sutton, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Tampa Bay Gulfside. He highlighted their shared goal with Duke Energy Florida of building safe, affordable, and energy-efficient homes.
Alongside the financial support, Duke Energy employees will also volunteer to build homes in Citrus and Orange counties later this year. This volunteerism is part of a broader effort by Duke Energy Florida and its foundation, which have donated over $200,000 in the state to date. The contributions are a portion of a nationwide effort involving $1 million and over 10,000 volunteer hours benefiting Habitat for Humanity.
Duke Energy Foundation donates more than $30 million annually to support communities. It is funded by Duke Energy shareholders, while Duke Energy Florida supplies energy to around 2 million customers across Florida.
