Duke Energy and Piedmont Natural Gas are recognizing the efforts of natural gas employees on March 18, 2025, marking the 10th annual Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day. This event highlights the contributions of workers who ensure that nearly 189 million Americans receive safe and reliable natural gas services.
More than 3,000 workers from Duke Energy/Piedmont and their contractors manage over 35,000 miles of natural gas infrastructure across Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and Tennessee. These technicians often serve as first responders during natural gas emergencies and play a key role in modernizing the delivery system to support customer needs and community growth.
Brian Weisker, Duke Energy's senior vice president and president of its natural gas business, stated: "Our Duke Energy and Piedmont Natural Gas employees routinely go above and beyond to serve our customers and our communities, all while making safety their No. 1 priority." Amy Spiller, state president for Duke Energy Ohio/Kentucky added: “We are proud to honor our natural gas workers as part of this celebration and beyond. Their hard work is vital to serving our region.”
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear issued a proclamation on February 26 recognizing March 18 as Natural Gas Utility Worker Appreciation Day. The proclamation emphasizes the dedication of these crews who maintain energy infrastructure under challenging conditions.
Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day was established by the American Public Gas Association in 2015 to raise public awareness about the efforts of natural gas utility employees. It also serves to educate residents on the benefits of using clean, reliable natural gas.
Duke Energy Ohio/Kentucky provides electric service to around 910,000 customers in Ohio and Kentucky along with natural gas service to approximately 560,000 customers. Meanwhile, Piedmont Natural Gas distributes natural gas to over 1.2 million customers in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
Duke Energy is among America's largest energy holding companies with a focus on transitioning towards cleaner energy solutions while maintaining reliability for its customers.
