Community Foundation awards $6K in grants to charitable organizations

Columbus, OH - The board of The Community Foundation of Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives approved seven grants totaling $6,000 to various charitable organizations nominated by OEC and cooperative employees. The grants were approved in late July 2024, and funds are in the process of being presented to the community organizations.

The board approved the following grants:

- The United Way of Union County—$500

- The Chase Haley Project—$500

- The Humane Society of Delaware County—$1,000

- The American Heart Association—$1,000

- Rico Pet Recovery—$500

- The Matthew 712 Project—$1,000

- Karis’ Cause for American Childhood Cancer—$1,500

The United Way of Union County received a matching grant with Union County Electric to support Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which provides free books to children in Union County.

The Chase Haley Project focuses on promoting mental wellness. South Central Power employees volunteer for the project and the co-op actively supports it with donations through the local United Way.

The Humane Society of Delaware County strives to ensure the best possible treatment, care, and placement of animals in need.

The American Heart Association is dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of all Americans. An OEC employee serves on the Young Professionals Board of the AHA for Central Ohio.

Rico Pet Recovery is a nonprofit group dedicated to lost pet recovery in Central Ohio.

The Matthew 712 Project aims to help rural villages in Zambia by providing clean water access points via drilling water wells. This initiative creates healthy, sustainable environments that increase life expectancy, educational opportunities, and spiritual growth.

Karis’ Cause for American Childhood Cancer provides support and assistance to families facing a childhood cancer diagnosis and undergoing treatment at Nationwide Children’s Hospital's Hematology, Oncology, and Blood and Marrow Transplant centers.

"The Community Foundation of Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives thanks everyone who submitted requests for grants on behalf of non-profit organizations in our communities," stated a foundation representative. "We are working to improve the quality of life for all."

The foundation accepts requests from Ohio cooperative employees around the state and employees of Ohio's Electric Cooperatives. Those interested in submitting a grant request can do so through their website. Donations are also accepted to help fund future grants.

The foundation board reviews grant request submissions three times a year. The next approval process will take place in November 2024.
