JCP&L is encouraging New Jersey residents to recycle old appliances through its Appliance Recycling program. The initiative offers financial incentives to those who participate, while also promoting energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.

The program allows customers to earn $100 for recycling a working refrigerator or freezer. An additional rebate of up to $50 is available when a room air conditioner or dehumidifier is recycled along with the larger appliances. Eligibility requires participants to be JCP&L electric customers who own the appliances, which must meet specific size and operational criteria.

"Recycling your old appliances is also good for the environment," states information from JCP&L. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), proper recycling has kept billions of pounds of materials out of landfills and ensures toxic materials are handled properly.

The process involves scheduling a pickup through JCP&L's website or by contacting their vendor, CLEAResult. Once confirmed, CLEAResult will collect and recycle the appliance in accordance with EPA guidelines, mailing an incentive check within six weeks.

This program does not replace old appliances but removes them responsibly. It is one among several energy efficiency programs offered by JCP&L in New Jersey.
