Duke Energy has restored power to over 73,000 customers in Indiana following severe storms that resulted in more than 100,000 outages across nearly all of the company's 28 districts. As of early this morning, approximately 31,000 customers remain without power.
Crews consisting of power line technicians, tree trimmers, and damage assessors have been working to address the outages caused by wind gusts reaching up to 70 miles per hour. These winds brought down trees, power lines, and poles across affected areas.
To expedite restoration efforts, Duke Energy has deployed over 500 additional crew members to assist local teams in heavily impacted counties such as Bartholomew, Hamilton, Monroe, Union, and Vigo. Estimated restoration times will be updated on Duke Energy's website and sent via text alerts to registered customers.
Clint Carnahan, general manager of emergency preparedness at Duke Energy, expressed gratitude for customer patience: “I want to thank our customers for their patience and understanding as our crews work quickly and safely to restore power.” He added that hundreds of additional resources are being brought in to support local efforts.
The company's restoration process prioritizes repairing large power lines and infrastructure serving the most significant number of customers first. Essential services like hospitals are also prioritized before addressing individual neighborhoods and homes.
Customers experiencing outages can report them through various channels including the Duke Energy website, mobile app, or by texting OUT to 57801. Additional safety tips are available on their website.
