Duke Energy Indiana has announced a commitment of $200,000 to its Share the Light Fund, aiming to assist customers facing financial difficulties with their energy bills this summer. The fund is intended to support families and individuals in managing energy costs during the hotter months when energy use typically rises.
Stan Pinegar, president of Duke Energy Indiana, stated, “The financial assistance we offer through the Share the Light Fund helps connect customers in need to resources to help pay their electric bills and stay cool through the summer.” He also expressed appreciation for their collaboration with statewide community action agencies that identify those in need and distribute the funds.
The company partners with the Indiana Community Action Association to provide up to $300 to eligible customers for energy bills, deposits, and reconnection or connection charges. Interested individuals are advised to contact their local community action agency for eligibility details. Information on service providers by county can be found at incap.org/energy-assistance.
Ed Gerardot, executive director of the Indiana Community Action Agency, highlighted the strain high seasonal energy bills place on economically challenged families. “With the support of partners like Duke Energy, we’re extending a helping hand to people who are facing tough times by connecting them with resources to offset their expenses and increase their financial stability,” he said.
Over five years, Duke Energy’s Share the Light Fund has distributed over $4 million in bill assistance, aiding nearly 15,000 households in Indiana. Contributions come from shareholders, employees, and voluntary customer donations.
In addition to financial aid, Duke Energy offers various tools and resources designed to help customers manage their energy consumption and costs. These include usage alerts that notify users about electricity consumption before billing periods end, free home energy assessments providing efficiency toolkits, and interest-free payment plans or due date extensions for those needing payment flexibility.
