FirstEnergy Corp. has announced that its foundation distributed over $2 million in the first half of 2025 to support local nonprofits. These organizations were chosen for their efforts to address critical needs in communities served by FirstEnergy's electric companies and areas where the company operates.
The FirstEnergy Foundation allocated nearly $1.1 million to various community needs, including hunger relief, youth education, and disaster relief. The employee-driven United Way Campaign raised more than $1 million with significant backing from company leadership. Over 800 organizations received direct donations, while 104 United Way agencies benefited from matching contributions.
In addition to financial grants, the foundation encourages employees to engage with their communities by providing each employee with 16 hours of volunteer time off annually. This initiative has resulted in nearly 5,000 volunteer hours contributed by FirstEnergy employees this year.
Following the retirement of Lorna Wisham, who held dual roles as Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Community Involvement and President of the FirstEnergy Foundation since September 2018, FirstEnergy is searching for a new leader for its foundation. Amanda Mertens Campbell is currently serving as interim leader during this transition period.
The foundation supports tax-exempt nonprofits under section 501(c)(3) that serve customers' critical needs within FirstEnergy's service areas. More information about grant opportunities can be found on their website.
FirstEnergy emphasizes integrity, safety, reliability, and operational excellence through its electric distribution companies serving over six million customers across several states and its transmission subsidiaries operating approximately 24,000 miles of transmission lines connecting the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions.
