Duke Energy and GE Vernova have announced a major agreement involving natural gas turbines and related equipment. This collaboration aims to address the growing demand for energy driven by advancements in manufacturing, data centers, and population growth.

The partnership outlines plans for Duke Energy to acquire up to 11 GE Vernova 7HA gas turbines, complementing the eight turbines recently secured. This initiative aligns with Duke Energy's integrated resource plans and long-term business strategy of maintaining reliable energy supply while minimizing customer costs. Duke Energy President and CEO Harry Sideris noted, “As we continue to experience unprecedented growth in our service territories, securing the necessary materials to build critical infrastructure and meet the energy demand is integral to delivering value for our customers and other stakeholders. We value our collaboration with forward-thinking partners who assist us in advancing our energy modernization strategy.”

The deal is facilitated by the recent expansion of GE Vernova’s facility in Greenville, South Carolina. This expansion is part of a larger $600 million investment in U.S. manufacturing, with $300 million dedicated to its Gas Power business. These upgrades aim to replace outdated manufacturing processes with lean manufacturing lines, increase supplier capacity and generate over 1,500 new jobs.

Scott Strazik, CEO of GE Vernova, remarked, “This arrangement with Duke Energy and the significant expansion of our U.S. manufacturing facilities illustrate our ability and commitment to developing innovative solutions that our customers require to meet today and tomorrow’s energy demands. We are proud to be able to supply these Greenville, S.C., manufactured gas turbines to a leading U.S. energy company and service to its consumers.”

By placing these new installations at existing Duke Energy sites, the companies plan to make use of available infrastructure, which is expected to reduce costs and speed up project delivery.
