The Duke Energy Foundation has announced a significant contribution of $125,000 to several nonprofits in Florida, aiming to combat food insecurity in the region. This effort builds on a previous $100,000 donation made last fall to Feeding Florida in light of the hurricanes Helene and Milton.

"Duke Energy Florida is proud to support local nonprofits dedicated to providing food and fighting hunger on behalf of Floridians during difficult times," stated Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president. "Together, with these organizations, we can decrease the number of families in our community that are experiencing hunger."

The foundation's grants have been distributed among seven organizations. Feed Hunger Now receives $10,000 for its sustainable food garden initiative in Seminole County, which helps sustain its 115-bed homeless shelter.

Backpack Buddies has been given $10,000 to continue and expand its "kids pack" program in Volusia County, ensuring food provision for school-aged children during weekends.

A $20,000 grant to Seniors First will support the Meals on Wheels program in Orange County, offering nutritious meals to seniors, especially those experiencing crises.

The Osceola County Council on Aging will use a $40,000 grant to continue operating its community drive-through and mobile food pantries.

The Council on Aging of Volusia County, provided with $5,000, will support the "Aging with Dignity" program, offering nutrition and essential products to seniors.

St. Petersburg Free Clinic has been awarded $30,000 to support its expanded food bank locations, delivering fresh groceries to Pinellas County residents.

Lastly, Metropolitan Ministries will receive $10,000 for its hunger relief program in Pasco County.

Marsha Lorenz, president of Seniors First, commented, "Both our Meals on Wheels and Emergency Meals on Wheels programs are a critical lifeline to vulnerable seniors in our community. The support of the Duke Energy Foundation will allow us to continue providing healthy meals and well-being checks to allow underserved older adults to age with dignity and independence."

The Foundation, funded by Duke Energy shareholders, provides over $30 million annually to support community needs across the areas served by Duke Energy.
