Duke Energy crews have restored power to over 74,000 customers in Indiana following severe storms that left more than 85,000 without electricity. The storms, which brought strong winds and heavy rains, resulted in widespread outages, with an estimated 10,500 customers still without power by late morning. Repairs are ongoing, and further assessments will help determine the extent of the damage and provide more accurate restoration timelines.
According to Clint Carnahan, the general manager of emergency preparedness at Duke Energy, extra crews have been deployed to speed up the restoration process. "We are bringing in additional crews to supplement our statewide workforce and speed power restoration," Carnahan said. "Our priority is always to restore service as quickly and safely as possible, and we appreciate our customers’ patience while we respond."
The restoration efforts prioritize large power lines and essential services, including hospitals and water treatment facilities, to maximize the number of restored customers. Subsequently, efforts focus on individual neighborhoods and homes.
Customers can report power outages through various channels, including text, Duke Energy's mobile app, website, or by calling an automated system. Duke Energy also provides an interactive outage map and offers enrollment in Outage Alerts for the latest updates.
Safety remains a primary concern, with the company advising customers to avoid downed electrical lines and ensuring hands are dry when handling electrical components. For flooded properties, power will not be reconnected until systems are verified safe by licensed electricians.
