FirstEnergy Corp. and its charitable arm, the FirstEnergy Foundation, have donated over $740,000 to nonprofit organizations in New Jersey during 2024. The funding supports various initiatives aimed at improving community welfare in areas served by Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy.

Lorna Wisham, Vice President of Corporate Affairs & Community Involvement and President of the FirstEnergy Foundation, emphasized the importance of these contributions: "Electricity is the lifeblood for homes and businesses, but it's the people that are the lifeblood of our communities. These non-profits are people-driven, and they give opportunities, hope and security to the people who need it the most. We are proud to be able to help them make our communities such great places to live, work and raise a family."

The donations reached 113 nonprofit and civic organizations across northern and central New Jersey. Among these contributions were more than $120,000 directed toward programs combating food insecurity and supporting local food pantries. Additionally, over $65,000 was given to eight United Way chapters for their community-focused events.

NJ SHARES received a grant of $64,000 to assist income-qualified JCP&L customers with necessary repairs identified during smart meter installations. Homelessness initiatives received over $58,000 in support while veteran-focused programs benefitted from more than $35,000 in funding.

The FirstEnergy Foundation also promotes employee involvement in community service by providing each employee with 16 hours of volunteer time off annually.
