Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., has received approval from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to expand its energy efficiency programs. This two-and-a-half-year initiative aims to achieve electricity savings as part of the N.J. Clean Energy Act of 2018 and the N.J. Energy Master Plan.
Doug Mokoid, President of FirstEnergy's New Jersey operations, stated, "These programs represent the next generation of energy savings for our customers. New Jersey is advancing a clean energy future, and our investments in energy efficiency programs will help those who live and run their businesses in our state to build a cleaner, more energy efficient tomorrow."
The expansion includes several ongoing programs that JCP&L has been offering since July 2021:
- The Whole Home program provides residential customers with opportunities for energy assessments and upgrades.
- The Energy Efficient Products program offers incentives for purchasing HVAC systems, appliances, consumer electronics, and other equipment.
- The Direct Install and Energy Solutions programs support small business and commercial customers through assessments and financial aid for upgrades.
- The Multifamily program offers financial incentives tailored to this customer segment for both individual units and common areas.
- The Building Decarbonization program provides rebates for electrifying heating, water heating, and cooking equipment.
Additionally, JCP&L is enhancing a program focused on promoting energy-saving behaviors by providing analytics-based reports through digital means or mail.
To further assist its customers, JCP&L is offering zero-interest financing options for projects related to energy efficiency and building decarbonization across various sectors including residential, multifamily, commercial, and industrial.
Residential customers using an average of 777 kilowatt hours per month can expect an increase in their bills: $1.06 per month during the first year of the program. By the final year (July 2026 - June 2027), this increase will be $4.03 per month.
Serving over one million customers across multiple counties in New Jersey, JCP&L continues to offer competitive rates among the state's regulated electric distribution companies.
