Columbia Gas of Ohio has recognized its 2023 Volunteers of the Year, highlighting employees who contribute to their communities beyond their professional duties. The award recipients include Ironton Field Operations Leader Glen Dale Chapman, Columbus Executive Administrative Assistant Jayne Metcalf, and the team involved in LifeCare Alliance’s Meals-on-Wheels initiative.
President Robert Heidorn expressed pride in the volunteers, stating, “I’m proud to work alongside Glen Dale, Jayne, the Meals-on-Wheels team and our many other volunteers who dedicate their time to giving back to causes they are passionate about. They represent our priorities as a company and make Columbia and their communities better for all of us.”
Chapman is actively involved in his community by coaching sports teams, mentoring students, preparing high school seniors for trade careers, and serving on various local boards. His dedication reflects his passion for teaching and working with children.
Metcalf's involvement began through personal inspiration from her brother's philanthropic efforts and support received from LifeCare Alliance during her mother's illness. She initiated the Meals-on-Wheels route at Columbia Gas with a now-retired colleague. For over 13 years, the team has been delivering meals five days a week across central Ohio while also providing companionship to clients.
The NiSource Charitable Foundation will donate $5,000 each to Community Mission Outreach in Chapman's name and LifeCare Alliance in honor of Metcalf and the Meals-on-Wheels team.
Columbia Gas of Ohio serves around 1.5 million customers as part of NiSource Inc., which aims for net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.
