FirstEnergy Corp. has named John Combs as its new Senior Vice President of Shared Services, effective April 22. In a statement, President and Chief Executive Officer Brian Tierney expressed confidence in Combs, saying, "John is a dynamic leader whose unique blend of technology, business and financial skills and experience guiding large organizations through technology modernization and digital transformation makes him a strong addition to the FirstEnergy leadership team."
Combs joins FirstEnergy from JPMorgan Chase & Co., where he held the position of Managing Director, General Manager, and Chief Transformation Officer of Enterprise Technology Services. His role at JPMorgan Chase & Co. involved spearheading the firm's cloud journey, application modernization, and digital product and service transformations while focusing on developing a high-performing organization and culture.
Prior to his time at JPMorgan Chase & Co., Combs accumulated 16 years of experience in IT leadership roles at Wolters Kluwer, a global professional information and software solutions provider. During his tenure, Combs led a transformation of the company's global technology organization, emphasizing security, delivery, technology sustainability, cost efficiency, and customer engagement.
Combs' career also includes IT positions at Telecommunication Systems, Legg Mason, Sony Electronics, and United Parcel Service. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Rochester Institute of Technology and is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
