Maryland's public charging network received a significant boost with the recent installation of 59 public charging stations, including 20 fast-charging stations, thanks to Potomac Edison’s EV Driven pilot program. The initiative, approved by the Maryland Public Service Commission in 2019, aims to make electric vehicle ownership more accessible and support environmental goals.
Lindsey Wilkinson, FirstEnergy’s Director of Emerging Technology Program, highlighted the convenience and reliability of the charging stations, stating, “Not only are our charging stations conveniently located, but they also have an excellent track record for consistently delivering the service customers expect when they show up at one of our charging stations.”
Paul Mantello, Middletown Town Administrator, expressed pride in the collaboration with Potomac Edison, stating, “We are proud to have teamed with Potomac Edison to support the EV drivers who live here and those who pass through the area.”
The installation of these charging stations not only benefits EV drivers but also supports Maryland's goal of having 300,000 zero-emission vehicles on the road by 2025. The second phase of the EV Driven pilot program includes extensions of existing programs and new initiatives to align with market conditions and state policies promoting transportation electrification.
As the use of EV chargers continues to grow, Potomac Edison's efforts in expanding the public charging infrastructure play a crucial role in supporting the transition to electric vehicles in Maryland.
