The Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation has awarded more than $251,000 in environmental stewardship grants to 13 organizations across South Carolina. Hunter A. Applewhite, president of the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation, expressed pride in recognizing local organizations that safeguard the environment and create more sustainable communities. Applewhite stated, "These grants reflect our commitment to support meaningful projects in the areas we serve."
Among the projects supported by the grants are initiatives to beautify nature trails, track migratory patterns of small animals, improve accessibility at local parks, plant trees, protect forests in the watershed, grow hydroponic gardens, and host farm-to-school educational programs. The grants aim to educate about environmental stewardship, protect and preserve habitat, and enhance nature accessibility.
Specifically, the Charleston County Parks Foundation will implement the Motus Wildlife Tracking System at Caw Caw Interpretive Center, while the Saluda Shoals Foundation will enhance nature trails and increase accessibility at the Saluda Shoals Park. The Nature Conservancy in South Carolina will work towards land protection to preserve forests in the watershed crucial for drinking water.
In total, the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation provided more than $1.3 million in environmental stewardship grants to support 114 organizations across eight states in Dominion Energy’s service territory.
The 2023 South Carolina Grant Recipients include a diverse range of organizations such as Boys Farm, Inc., Brookdale Elementary School, Green Heart Project Inc., and Keep the Midlands Beautiful, among others, who received grants ranging from $5,000 to $50,000.
