In an effort to promote energy efficiency and reduce energy bills for income-eligible residents, Duke Energy Florida is launching its Neighborhood Energy Saver program in Altamonte Springs. This program provides free energy makeovers for qualifying homeowners and renters in the community.
Through the Neighborhood Energy Saver program, Duke Energy Florida will assess each home to determine if it qualifies for free attic insulation, duct sealing, and other energy-saving improvements. The program is available to residential customers identified by Duke Energy based on federal and state guidelines and census data.
Customers who qualify for the program will receive up to 17 energy-saving improvements at no cost, including digital room thermometers, energy-saving showerheads, one-year supplies of AC filters, water-saving faucets aerators, energy-efficient lightbulbs, and insulation upgrades. Additionally, customers will learn about daily activities and habits that can increase their electric use and raise their energy bills.
Pat Bates, the mayor of Altamonte Springs, expressed her enthusiasm for the program, stating, "For decades, the city has been a leader in conservation and environmentally friendly initiatives; the Neighborhood Energy Saver Program promotes these same core values by educating the community about energy efficiency in the home and assisting certain households with free energy improvements."
The launch event for the Neighborhood Energy Saver program will take place on Tuesday, January 23, at the Eastmonte Park Civic Center in Altamonte Springs. Eligible customers have received invitations to attend the event and are encouraged to contact the Neighborhood Energy Saver Customer Care Center to reserve their spot or obtain more information.
Since its inception in 2006, the Neighborhood Energy Saver program has been implemented in over 65 communities across Florida. Duke Energy Florida has installed more than 700,000 energy efficiency improvements in over 49,000 income-eligible customers' homes.
This initiative is part of Duke Energy's commitment to clean energy and sustainability. The company aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions from electricity generation by 2050 and has interim targets to reduce carbon emissions from electric generation by 2030 and 2040.
