GASTONIA, N.C. – Dominion Energy is reminding customers of programs and tools to help them manage their natural gas use and hold down costs during the colder months. Dominion Energy expanded its conservation program offerings in recent years to provide customers with more options to help them reduce their energy usage and bills.
According to Rusty Harris, Vice President and General Manager of Dominion Energy North Carolina-Gas, "Natural gas use increases this time of year, and we have a number of programs available to help our customers manage their bills, including free energy efficiency upgrades to help the most vulnerable. We're also here to help with payment concerns associated with higher winter bills."
To conserve natural gas and reduce costs, Dominion Energy suggests several simple changes. First, customers are advised to set their thermostat at 68 degrees or lower during colder months as each degree above 68 gradually increases energy costs. Additionally, caulking, sealing, and weather-stripping around all seams, cracks, and openings, especially exterior doors and windows, can help keep the cold air out. Regularly checking air filters and changing them when dirty, as well as inspecting ductwork for leaks and tears, is also recommended. Adjusting drapes and blinds according to the time of day and taking advantage of the sun's natural warmth by keeping curtains and blinds open during daylight hours are further ways to reduce energy consumption.
For customers interested in energy and bill management programs, Dominion Energy suggests several options. One such option is budget billing, which allows eligible customers to avoid monthly bill fluctuations by spreading out their estimated bills for the next 12 months into equal payments based on the previous year's natural gas usage. Dominion Energy's Weatherization Assistance Program provides free in-home energy assessments and the installation of natural gas-saving measures to income-qualifying residential customers. The "My Energy Use" tool allows customers to monitor their natural gas usage by seeing their average daily consumption and the impact of changing temperatures. This tool can be accessed through the DominionEnergy.com account. Additionally, Dominion Energy offers a discounted rate, expanded rebates, and other conservation options through their ThermWise program.
Customers who need support with their natural gas bill can make a payment arrangement or seek bill assistance options online by signing into their DominionEnergy.com account. Dominion Energy also supports the Heat Care Fund, which provides funding for eligible customers facing financial hardship. Applications for Heat Care funding can be made at local Salvation Army agencies.
In conclusion, Dominion Energy is committed to helping customers conserve natural gas and cut costs during the winter months. By offering a range of programs and tools, such as energy efficiency upgrades, budget billing, and usage monitoring, customers have various options to manage their bills and reduce their energy consumption.
