Duke Energy has announced significant leadership changes following the planned retirement of Julie Janson, who has served the company for nearly four decades. Janson will step down from her role as executive vice president and CEO of Duke Energy Carolinas on July 1, 2025.
Harry Sideris, president and CEO of Duke Energy, acknowledged Janson’s contributions, stating, “An industry veteran and invaluable member of our team, Julie played a large role in shaping today’s Duke Energy and has embodied the values that make Duke Energy a great company.”
In light of Janson's retirement, Kodwo Ghartey-Tagoe will become the executive vice president and CEO of Duke Energy Carolinas, along with the position as head of the Natural Gas Business Unit. Currently serving as executive vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary, Ghartey-Tagoe has been with the company for 23 years.
Alex Glenn is set to take over as the executive vice president and chief legal officer of Duke Energy, responsible for legal, ethics, compliance, and corporate audit functions. Glenn has been with Duke Energy for almost 30 years and previously served as executive vice president and CEO of Duke Energy Florida and Midwest.
Louis Renjel will take on the role of executive vice president and CEO of Duke Energy Florida and Midwest while continuing as the chief corporate affairs officer. Renjel joined Duke Energy in 2017 after a tenure with CSX Corporation, a transportation company based in Jacksonville, Florida.
Cameron McDonald, currently senior vice president and chief human resources officer, will join the company’s senior management committee. David Maltz will add the responsibilities of corporate secretary to his existing role as vice president of corporate legal support and chief governance officer.
Sideris expressed confidence in the new leadership team, emphasizing their capability as Duke Energy moves forward with an $83 billion capital plan aimed at modernizing energy infrastructure and supporting growth across its service areas.
