The Duke Energy Foundation has contributed $40,000 to the Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas (AAAPP) to provide severe weather kits for older adults ahead of the 2025 hurricane season. This initiative aims to support approximately 1,000 seniors in coping with severe weather conditions.

Ann Marie Winter, executive director of AAAPP, expressed gratitude for the donation, stating, "Helping seniors stay safe in their homes is the mission of the Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas, so we are so grateful for Duke Energy's support of our Senior Storm Kit program." She also appreciated Duke Energy employees' involvement in assembling these kits.

The severe weather kits include essential items such as a 12-hour light stick, flashlight with batteries, headlamp, matches, battery-powered radio, mini first-aid kit and other safety-related items. They also contain a multi-tool kit, manual can opener, reusable utensils and drinking cup, notebook and pencil, large print puzzle books, toiletry kit and hygiene items.

Marc Hoenstine from Duke Energy Florida highlighted the importance of preparation during hurricane season. He stated that volunteering to assemble these kits helps reach vulnerable communities and shows that Duke Energy is more than just an energy provider.

Duke Energy provided 25 volunteers who helped build the kits for distribution across Pinellas and Pasco counties. Melissa Seixas emphasized volunteerism as a key part of Duke Energy's community commitment. "Throughout the year," she said, "our employees donate thousands of volunteer hours as a meaningful way to give back to critical local organizations like Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas."

To further assist customers in preparing for storm season, safety tips are available along with the free Red Cross Emergency app for advice before storms hit.

The Duke Energy Foundation annually provides over $30 million in philanthropic support within its service areas. The foundation is funded by shareholders of Duke Energy.

Duke Energy Florida serves two million customers across a vast area in Florida with significant energy capacity. The parent company operates utilities serving millions across several states and is working towards ambitious clean energy goals by mid-century.
