The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has announced the commencement of the 2023-24 Special Reconnect Order (SRO) for Columbia Gas of Ohio customers. Starting from October 16, 2023, until April 15, 2024, customers will have the opportunity to reconnect their service or avoid disconnection during the winter heating season for a fee of $175, along with a $36 reconnection fee if the service has already been disconnected.

According to the PUCO, customers who wish to take advantage of the SRO program must establish a payment plan for any outstanding balance they may have. Payment assistance is also available for customers who are facing difficulties in paying their bills. Columbia Gas wants its customers to know that they are committed to providing support to those in need.

A Columbia Gas spokesperson stated, “We understand that customers may have trouble paying their bills, and Columbia wants customers to know that payment assistance is available to those who need it.”

For more information on the Special Reconnect Order or to inquire about available payment plans, customers are encouraged to contact Columbia Gas at 1-800-344-4077.

As the winter heating season approaches, Columbia Gas advises customers to prioritize safety. It is important to regularly check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and replace batteries when necessary. The company also emphasizes the importance of avoiding the use of stoves, ovens, or grills for heat and keeping flammable objects away from heaters.

To prevent any issues, it is recommended to clear snow and ice around vents and meters using a broom. Additionally, if customers suspect a natural gas leak, they should immediately stop what they are doing, evacuate the area, and contact Columbia Gas at 1-800-344-4077.

Columbia Gas of Ohio is the largest natural gas utility in the state, providing clean, affordable, and efficient natural gas to approximately 1.4 million customers.
