Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives announce winners of 2025 scholarship competitions

Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives have announced the winners of the 2025 Louise Freeland and Ohio Line Supervisors Association (OLSA) scholarship competitions. Nine high school seniors were recognized for their academic achievements in a ceremony held on March 6, 2025.

The scholarships are divided into two categories: the Louise Freeland Scholarships and the OLSA Scholarships. The recipients were selected by independent judges who reviewed applications and conducted interviews with the students.

The Louise Freeland Scholarships, named after a long-time employee of Ohio’s Rural Electric Cooperatives, are awarded to children of electric cooperative employees and trustees. This year, Josann Frizzell, Garrett Shepherd, Karis Beineke, Hailey Nash, Addison Huff, and Miah Cheney each received $3,000 scholarships.

Josann Frizzell is a senior at Wheeling Central Catholic High School and is the daughter of Charles Frizzell and Chris Mehler. Garrett Shepherd attends New London High School and is the son of Tabitha and David Shepherd. Karis Beineke is from River Valley High School; her parents are Paul and Cheryl Beineke. Hailey Nash attends Graham High School; she is Jeremy and Kristina Nash’s daughter. Addison Huff studies at Hillsboro High School as Brian and Heather Huff’s daughter. Lastly, Miah Cheney from Fairbanks High School is Marsha and Kevin Fausnaugh’s daughter.

In the OLSA Scholarship competition, Landry Knore secured first place with a $3,500 scholarship. Katelyn Wynkoop took second place with a $2,500 award while Payton Dudzik received third place with a $2,000 scholarship.

Landry Knore is a senior at Versailles High School. Katelyn Wynkoop attends Bloom-Carroll High School while Payton Dudzik studies at Barnesville High School.

The OLSA comprises line supervisors from 25 electric cooperatives across Ohio and West Virginia affiliated with Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives.
