Ohio congressional members meet with electric cooperative leaders during August recess

Members of Ohio’s Congressional delegation recently met with leaders from electric cooperatives and the Cardinal Power Plant during the August recess.

U.S. Rep. Michael Rulli (R-Salem) visited the Cardinal Generating Station in Brilliant, Ohio, where he spoke with power plant operators and staff from Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives (OEC). During his visit, Rep. Rulli stated, “Rep. Rulli reiterated his support of Cardinal Power Plant operations as a producer of dependable power generation in Ohio and supports continued investments in energy through outthe region.”

Rep. David Taylor (R-Amelia) toured Adams Rural Electric Cooperative to learn about its history and operations. While there, he discussed issues related to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and permitting reform with Adams and OEC staff. According to Rep. Taylor, “Rep. Taylor talked with Adams and OEC staff about Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and permitting reform needed to make federal agencies more responsive and better serve electric cooperatives.”

At the Central Ohio Lineworkers Training (COLT) facility in Mt. Gilead, Rep. Mike Carey (R-Columbus) participated in a live line safety demonstration led by COLT instructors and attempted climbing utility poles at the indoor training center. Following this visit, Rep. Carey met with co-op CEOs and OEC staff at Consolidated Cooperative to discuss legislative and regulatory priorities for electric cooperatives in Washington D.C.

Central Ohio Lineworker Training program graduates new apprentice classes in March and April

Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives has announced the graduation of two apprentice classes from its Central Ohio Lineworker Training program this spring. The four-year course combines classroom learning with thousands of hours of hands-on experience for future lineworkers across the state.
