In mid-September, nine cooperative CEOs and members of the Ohio Electric Cooperatives (OEC) leadership visited Capitol Hill. Their visit was part of the annual “CEO Fly-In,” where they met with nearly half of the Ohio Congressional delegation. The discussions centered on concerns about several U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules and their potential negative impacts on Buckeye Power and cooperative members.
The group urged lawmakers to pass resolutions of disapproval to stop these rules from being implemented. They also advocated for legislation aimed at improving federal environmental permitting processes necessary for electric infrastructure improvements.
Another topic addressed was a proposal by the U.S. Postal Service to end evening pickups at postal offices located more than fifty miles from regional processing centers, which could affect co-op membership.
The CEOs concluded their trip with meetings with Ohio delegation members, including Rep. Troy Balderson and Rep. Bob Latta from the House Energy and Commerce Committee, during committee votes.
