Duke Energy has announced the appointment of Katherine Neebe as the new chief communications officer, effective February 24. Neebe, who currently serves as senior vice president and chief sustainability officer, will succeed Oscar Suris. Suris will transition to a role as a senior advisor.
Louis Renjel, executive vice president and chief corporate affairs officer at Duke Energy, praised Neebe’s qualifications: “Katherine has demonstrated a deep appreciation for the critical role that clear, timely communications play in fostering trust among our stakeholders,” he said. “She has the leadership skills and external affairs experience needed to help meet the expectations of our customers, communities, shareholders and other stakeholders.”
Neebe expressed her commitment to her new role by stating, “Delivering business outcomes by serving our customers and communities will remain my focus. Corporate Communications is essential in advancing our ambitious energy modernization strategy, aimed at meeting our communities’ growing and evolving energy needs.”
Under Suris’ leadership, Duke Energy’s Corporate Communications division was reorganized into an integrated communications entity that included public affairs and brand marketing. This expansion enhanced both external storytelling and internal communication capabilities.
Renjel acknowledged Suris’ contributions: “I am thankful for Oscar’s dedication and commitment to Duke Energy during his tenure here, and I’m grateful to have the benefit of Oscar’s outstanding expertise and counsel.” Suris also commented on his time with the company: “It’s been my privilege to work with this talented team and tell the dynamic story of Duke Energy. This is the right time to transition to an advisor role and help empower the next generation of communications leaders.”
In addition to this announcement, Amy Strecker will temporarily lead Neebe’s former organization while continuing her responsibilities as Duke Energy Foundation president.
Katherine Neebe is recognized for her work at the intersection of corporate strategy and stakeholder engagement. Her previous roles include significant leadership positions at Walmart and World Wildlife Fund before joining Duke Energy as chief sustainability officer.
