JCP&L urges public to report streetlight outages for timely repairs

0Comments

As summer approaches, the role of streetlights in community safety becomes increasingly important. Streetlights not only enhance visibility but also contribute to reducing crime rates, according to studies. JCP&L emphasizes the significance of maintaining these lights and encourages residents to report any outages.

In 2024, JCP&L addressed over 49,000 streetlight outages, averaging more than 130 repairs per day. Pat Mullin, Vice President of Operations at JCP&L, stated, “Streetlights are safety tools, but they also provide an image of comfort in so many of our communities.” He added that they signal a welcoming environment in areas like downtowns.

To report a streetlight outage, customers can call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) and say “streetlight” after the greeting or use the online form available on firstenergycorp.com. Essential details for reporting include the customer’s name and phone number, the address of the affected light, the utility pole number, and a description of the issue.

Once an outage is reported, JCP&L dispatches crews to assess and repair the light. Simple issues like faulty bulbs are often resolved quickly. However, complex problems may require fixture replacements or further investigation. Common challenges include underground wiring repairs or access obstructions such as parked vehicles.

JCP&L manages over 200,000 streetlights across its service area and remains committed to addressing outages promptly to ensure community safety.
