JCP&L offers personalized support for Universal Service Fund applications amid rising energy costs

0Comments

Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., is offering assistance to customers who may be struggling with their electric bills. The company’s Energy Assistance Outreach Team (EAOT) provides support to eligible households applying for the Universal Service Fund (USF), a program that aims to reduce monthly electricity costs for low- and moderate-income residents.

The EAOT works directly with customers, helping them navigate bill assistance programs and submit applications for aid. Customers can attend local utility assistance events or contact the team through firstenergycorp.com/USF for help.

Doug Mokoid, President of FirstEnergy New Jersey, said: “We understand many customers are concerned about home energy costs. We want them to know that JCP&L has their back! Our Energy Assistance Outreach Team can help customers get back on track and keep their homes comfortable.”

The USF is available throughout the year and offers monthly credits on energy bills for qualifying households. Additionally, participants in the USF Fresh Start Program may have their account balances eliminated once if they meet certain criteria. To qualify, applicants must have an income at or below 60% of the state median income level and spend more than 2% of annual income on electricity (without electric heat) or more than 4% (with electric heat).

Customers interested in learning more about USF or needing application assistance can schedule sessions with team members at firstenergycorp.com/USF.

On December 4, 2025, JCP&L will host a free utility assistance event in Burlington County at Country Lakes Firehouse (Station 3), located at 103 Firehouse Rd., Browns Mills, NJ. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where EAOT staff will help attendees apply for USF and provide information about other bill payment programs.

Community organizations such as the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, SNAP, BoldAge PACE, Community Affairs and Resource Center (CARC), Comfort Partners, Light Up Your World, O.C.E.A.N., Inc., Pinelands Family Success Center, and SHARES will also participate in the event to answer questions about available support.

Additional resources regarding bill assistance programs or payment arrangements are available at firstenergycorp.com/billassist.

JCP&L serves approximately 1.1 million customers across several counties in New Jersey including Burlington, Essex, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren.

FirstEnergy operates one of the largest investor-owned electric systems in the country with distribution companies serving multiple states including Ohio and Pennsylvania. Its transmission subsidiaries manage around 24,000 miles of lines connecting regions from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic.
