FirstEnergy powers new thrill rides at Cedar Point

0Comments

As summer approaches, Cedar Point is set to introduce a new attraction: Siren’s Curse, the tallest, fastest, and longest tilt coaster in North America. Before the ride can operate each season, a crucial collaboration ensures its safe operation.

FirstEnergy crews collaborated with Cedar Point’s engineering and construction teams to bring this record-breaking ride to life. Their work included installing high-capacity transformers, upgrading underground cabling, and integrating with the park’s existing grid. The electrical work for Siren’s Curse was a complex undertaking.

Dave Evans, Construction Manager for Siren’s Curse at Cedar Point, stated: “We had to figure out where the power was going to come from and what was in the way because there had been a ride on the same site previously.”

The ride features a 160-foot vertical tilt and a 90-degree drop and relies on sophisticated systems that require precise electrical infrastructure. Evans praised FirstEnergy: “FirstEnergy has been a great partner from day one, successfully getting us where we needed to go.”

Beyond new attractions like Siren’s Curse and Top Thrill 2, FirstEnergy plays an essential role in maintaining Cedar Point’s electrical systems. Crews perform routine maintenance during the off-season, inspecting and upgrading circuits to ensure reliable power during peak summer demand.

Brian Moore, Line Supervisor for FirstEnergy’s Ohio Edison electric company, expressed enthusiasm about their work: “It’s exciting to work on projects that bring so much joy to people. Knowing that our work helps families make unforgettable summer memories makes it all worthwhile.”
