FirstEnergy Pennsylvania offers cash incentives for appliance recycling program

0Comments

FirstEnergy Pennsylvania is encouraging customers to recycle old and inefficient appliances through its Appliance Recycling program. The initiative aims to help customers reduce their energy bills while offering cash incentives for recycling.

Customers of FirstEnergy Pennsylvania Electric Company, operating under the names West Penn Power, Met-Ed, or Penelec, can receive $50 for each working refrigerator or room air conditioner they recycle. Additional incentives include $25 for a working freezer and $25 for a mini refrigerator or dehumidifier when recycled along with a refrigerator or freezer.

According to FirstEnergy Pennsylvania, upgrading to ENERGY STAR certified appliances can lead to significant energy savings. For example, ENERGY STAR freezers are about 10% more efficient than standard models, and ENERGY STAR refrigerators use roughly 9% less energy. These newer appliances are also reported to last longer and perform better.

The recycling process involves scheduling a pickup online or by calling CLEAResult at 1-888-314-8141. CLEAResult handles the collection and ensures that appliances are recycled in accordance with EPA guidelines. Customers will receive their incentive checks within six weeks of recycling their qualifying appliances.

“Upgrading to an ENERGY STAR certified appliance means you’ll use less energy and save more money. For example: ENERGY STAR freezers are 10% more efficient than standard models; ENERGY STAR refrigerators use about 9% less energy,” the company stated. “These appliances also tend to last longer and perform better. Plus, recycling old appliances helps protect the environment by keeping harmful materials out of landfills and ensuring the safe disposal of refrigerants and other substances.”
