FirstEnergy recently partnered with the Akron RubberDucks and the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank to host an event aimed at combating hunger in local communities. The collaboration took place during a baseball game on April 11, where fans were encouraged to donate non-perishable food items. In exchange for their contributions, attendees received discounted tickets to enjoy the game and a fireworks display.

Dan Flowers, President and CEO of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, highlighted the increasing demand for food assistance: “Our food bank has seen a significant increase in the number of families seeking help for nutritious meals. The demand for food is at an all-time high, and we appreciate the community’s support to ensure we can meet that demand.”

The food bank reports that about one in seven people in the area struggle with food insecurity. Last year, they provided access to 31.4 million meals, marking a 16% increase from 2023 and setting a record for their organization.

Torrence Hinton, President of FirstEnergy Ohio, emphasized the impact of such initiatives: “Teaming up with the Akron RubberDucks to support the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank was a powerful way to rally the community. Family-friendly events like these not only bring people together but can also help make a real difference for those facing food insecurity.”

FirstEnergy has been actively supporting local food banks through various initiatives. In 2024 alone, its foundation contributed $6.7 million to communities in northeast Ohio. Over two decades, FirstEnergy’s employee-driven Harvest for Hunger campaign has raised nearly $7 million to aid food banks and pantries across its service areas.
