FirstEnergy Foundation awards holiday grants to nonprofits in West Virginia and Maryland

The FirstEnergy Foundation has announced $40,000 in “Gifts of the Season” grants to two nonprofit organizations serving West Virginia and Maryland. These grants are part of a broader program that will distribute $100,000 to eight nonprofits across five states in 2025 within FirstEnergy’s service area.

The Ronald McDonald House Morgantown received $20,000 to support its Jacob Johnson Family Lodging Fund. This funding will help about 42 families stay at the facility while their children receive medical care locally. Since opening in 1990, the organization has supported more than 200 families annually through lodging and day guest services.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County, Maryland was also awarded $20,000. The grant will fund additional learning opportunities for approximately 150 children who benefit from adult mentorships provided by the organization since 1956.

Jim Myers, President of FirstEnergy’s West Virginia and Maryland operations, said: “This season reminds us how important it is to come together and support our neighbors in ways that have an impact. By supporting organizations that provide food, shelter and life-changing opportunities, we’re helping families find comfort in times of need and empowering our youth to thrive.”

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the “Gifts of the Season” program. Since its launch in 2016, the initiative has distributed $1.2 million to local nonprofits focused on strengthening communities and promoting inclusion.

The FirstEnergy Foundation supports tax-exempt nonprofits addressing critical needs within areas served by FirstEnergy’s electric companies or where it does business. In 2025 alone, over $5.5 million has been distributed for community support throughout FirstEnergy’s operational region.
