Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) has initiated a project to upgrade a high-voltage power line in Monmouth County, benefiting almost 4,000 customers. The upgrade aims to enhance reliability and minimize service disruptions for customers in central New Jersey.
According to Jim Fakult, President of JCP&L, “This important project will help reduce the risk of outages and ensure that our transmission system keeps pace with the growing demand for safe, reliable power by our customers in central Jersey.”
The 3.5-mile power line upgrade involves replacing existing wires, hardware, and structures with new poles, wires, and equipment designed to withstand severe weather conditions better. The enhanced power line will be able to carry more electrical load, accommodate increased customer demand for electricity, and handle higher power flow during unplanned service interruptions, ultimately improving reliability and minimizing power outages.
This project is part of a larger effort by JCP&L to invest $223 million in upgrading over 60 miles of transmission lines in Monmouth County. The initiative is part of Energize365, a grid evolution program by FirstEnergy Corp., aimed at making transmission and distribution investments to meet current and future power demands. FirstEnergy plans to invest $26 billion between 2024 and 2028 to create a smarter, more secure grid that can support electric vehicles, clean energy sources, and the electrification of homes and businesses.
