Duke Energy announced on Apr. 7 that it will donate $1,000 to its Share the Light Fund agencies for every Tampa Bay Rays regular-season game win throughout the 2026 baseball season. The initiative is intended to provide financial support to Florida customers facing difficulties paying their energy bills.
The company said this program aims to help more families in need by linking charitable giving with local sports success. Last season, Duke Energy contributed $82,000 through this initiative, supporting customers who struggled with utility expenses.
According to Duke Energy, the Share the Light Fund is a customer assistance program funded by employees, retirees, customers and shareholders. These contributions are matched annually up to $500,000 by the Duke Energy Foundation and distributed monthly across social service agencies in the company’s 35-county service area.
Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president, said: “We are always looking for ways to support our customers, and partnerships with organizations like the Tampa Bay Rays give a great opportunity to reach more families in need. Each season we look forward to cheering on the Rays while giving back to the community we serve.”
Over time, nearly $30.5 million has been provided in energy bill assistance through various programs in Florida, helping almost 31,000 customers according to company figures. In addition to direct financial aid programs like Share the Light Fund, Duke Energy offers resources such as Usage Alerts and other bill management tools designed to help consumers monitor and manage their energy consumption.
Duke Energy Florida serves two million residential, commercial and industrial customers across a 13,000-square-mile area of Florida with an energy capacity of 12,500 megawatts. Its parent company serves millions more across several states and continues investing in grid upgrades and new generation resources.
