Duke Energy highlights economic contributions during National Economic Development Week

Duke Energy is emphasizing the achievements of its Florida Economic Development team during National Economic Development Week, celebrated from May 12 to 16. The company highlights its efforts in enhancing Florida’s economy by attracting businesses and investments.

Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president, stated, “Our Economic Development team has helped strengthen the communities we serve through their local knowledge and dedication to Florida’s success.” She added that Duke Energy is committed to fostering economically vibrant communities and plans to explore innovative programs for the benefit of all Floridians.

Since 2020, Duke Energy’s Economic Development team has been instrumental in expanding or attracting 57 companies to Florida. This initiative has resulted in more than 6,691 jobs and over $2 billion in capital investment.

For over two decades, Duke Energy’s economic development initiatives have been recognized by Site Selection Magazine as part of its annual “Top Utilities in Economic Development” list. Key programs include the Site Readiness Program, which identifies potential sites for industrial prospects. This program alone has led to 1,650 new jobs and over $545 million in capital investment since 2013.

In addition, Duke Energy Florida awarded more than $890,000 in economic development grants in 2024. These grants support various initiatives such as marketing, research, strategic planning, lead generation and product development.

Beth Cicchetti, executive director of the Florida Economic Development Council, praised the collaboration with Duke Energy: “We are very fortunate to have so many professionals, leaders and businesses that are dedicated to supporting and growing Florida’s economy.”
