The Duke Energy Foundation has announced the launch of its America250 grant program, offering more than $1 million in funding to support nonprofit organizations across six states. The initiative is part of the foundation’s effort to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Qualified nonprofits located in North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Florida are eligible to apply for grants ranging from $5,000 to $20,000. The application window opens on January 12 and closes on February 20. Projects funded through this program should align with one or more of three core themes: workforce development programs for veterans transitioning to civilian careers; local history projects and educational initiatives that celebrate America’s founding; and community efforts such as cleanups or improvements to public green spaces.

“America250 is more than a milestone – it’s an opportunity to reflect on our nation’s history, recognize the contributions of all Americans and support the next generation through community-led projects,” said Loree Elswick, president of the Duke Energy Foundation. “Our investment is focused on uplifting the places and people that shape our communities.”

Eligible applicants must be qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofits serving communities where Duke Energy operates. Governmental entities are not eligible for funding under this program. Each organization may submit only one application.

The Duke Energy Foundation provides over $30 million each year in philanthropic support for communities served by Duke Energy customers. The foundation receives its funding from Duke Energy shareholders.

Duke Energy is among the largest energy holding companies in the United States, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. Its electric utilities serve approximately 8.6 million customers across several states including Florida, while its natural gas operations reach about 1.7 million customers.
