Duke Energy Florida has expressed appreciation to its customers for reducing electricity use during a period of extreme cold on Monday morning. The company reported that increased conservation efforts by households and businesses helped lower the strain on the electric grid during one of the season’s coldest mornings.

Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president, said, “Customer conservation made a meaningful difference today. We appreciate every household and business that adjusted their routines to help manage energy demand on the grid through this period of unusual cold, and we’re grateful for the support from local, state and federal officials who helped encourage conservation. Our teams continue to work around the clock to ensure that our power plants and grid remain ready to meet our customers’ energy needs.”

Duke Energy stated it is prepared to meet customer demand for the rest of the week and continues working to expand its range of energy sources in response to economic growth and rising energy needs across Florida.

The company also encouraged customers to maintain energy-saving habits as colder weather persists. Duke Energy provides various tips for saving energy costs at duke-energy.com/SeasonalSavings. Customers can also access flexible payment options such as installment plans, pick your due date, or request extensions. Additional assistance programs are available through initiatives like Share the Light Fund and Payment Assistance Finder, as well as community resources via 211.org.

Customers can explore other rate options or enroll qualifying smart thermostats for bill credits. They may also track their energy use online or through the Duke Energy mobile app.

Duke Energy Florida supplies electricity to approximately 2 million customers across a 13,000-square-mile area in Florida, with an owned capacity of 12,300 megawatts. Its parent company serves millions more across several states and is investing in grid upgrades and cleaner generation sources including renewables and storage solutions.
