Duke Energy Florida hosts event offering free home energy assessments in North Greenwood

0Comments

Duke Energy Florida held its Neighborhood Energy Saver Program event in North Greenwood, St. Petersburg, aiming to help local residents lower their electricity bills through free home energy assessments and improvements. About 75 people attended the event at the North Greenwood Recreation Center, though more than 1,400 customers in the area are eligible for the program.

Melissa Seixas, president of Duke Energy Florida, said, “Programs like the Neighborhood Energy Saver are one of the many ways we partner with customers and the community to help reduce energy costs. We know our customers are feeling higher costs everywhere, which is why we’re glad to have this opportunity to connect with them and share practical ways to lower their energy bills, while enjoying a meal together.”

The program offers up to 20 no-cost energy-saving improvements for eligible participants. These include digital room thermometers, energy-saving showerheads or wands, a year’s supply of AC filters, water-saving faucet aerators for kitchens and bathrooms, energy-efficient lightbulbs, water heater wraps or pipe wrap, covers for window AC units, as well as caulking, weatherstripping and door sweeps.

Eligibility is open to residential customers—both homeowners and renters—in communities identified by Duke Energy Florida based on federal and state guidelines along with census data.

Since 1981, Duke Energy has reported that its Florida customers have saved nearly $1.25 billion through various energy efficiency programs such as this one.

Duke Energy Florida serves about two million customers across a 13,000-square-mile service area in Florida. Its parent company operates electric utilities serving over eight million customers in six states and owns nearly 55 gigawatts of energy capacity nationwide.
