Duke Energy boosts incentives for South Carolina energy-saving programs

0Comments

Duke Energy has announced increased incentives and expanded eligibility for its energy efficiency and demand response programs in South Carolina. The updates, which began on August 1, 2025, were approved by the Public Service Commission of South Carolina.

“Some of our program incentives have doubled – or even tripled – making now an even more rewarding time to make energy efficiency improvements or enroll in programs at your home or business to help save,” said Tim Pearson, Duke Energy’s South Carolina president. “With the recent enactment of the S.C. Energy Security act, our state’s leaders have also signaled the importance of these types of programs and offered a roadmap for us to potentially expand similar offerings in the future.”

The changes affect both residential and business customers. Residential customers now have access to a free home energy assessment that includes customized products such as smart power strips, efficient showerheads, and caulking installed during the Home Energy House Call. Rebates for upgrades like insulation, water heaters, and smart thermostats have been expanded through the Smart $aver program. Incentives for shifting energy use to lower-demand periods have also increased, including new bill credits for electric water heater owners participating in Power Manager and EnergyWise Home programs.

Business customers will see higher incentives as well. The PowerShare program now offers increased capacity credits from $3.50 to $5 per kilowatt for reducing energy use under certain options. Incentives in the EnergyWise Business program have also grown, with average increases between 20% and 25% across many business energy efficiency offerings. Assistance programs have been updated for 2025 to give qualifying customers more ways to save on their bills. Those struggling with payments may qualify for help from government or nonprofit resources. Duke Energy continues to offer flexible payment plans and assistance options like the Share the Light Fund; more information is available at duke-energy.com/SummerSavings.

Duke Energy serves millions of electric and natural gas customers across several states and is working toward significant emission reduction goals by investing in grid upgrades and cleaner generation sources.
