Duke Energy Foundation has announced a commitment of $500,000 to enhance storm preparedness in North Carolina communities. Eligible organizations can apply for grants up to $25,000 until April 25.

Kendal Bowman, Duke Energy North Carolina state president, highlighted the importance of collaboration during natural disasters: “The impact of Hurricane Helene last fall showed us the importance of strong collaboration between emergency management agencies, first responders and nonprofit organizations when it comes to natural disasters.” Bowman added that the company is proud to support efforts in communities to strengthen resilience against severe weather events.

The grants will aid various initiatives such as disaster preparedness collaborations across different sectors, innovative planning for extreme weather readiness, local storm preparedness training and materials, and specialized training for first responders.

Since 2020, Duke Energy Foundation has prioritized storm preparedness by awarding nearly $5.6 million in North Carolina. Past beneficiaries include Wilmington’s flood gauge installation project and Raleigh’s weather radio distribution initiative.

Applications are open until April 25 at 5 p.m. ET via the Duke Energy Foundation’s website.

Duke Energy Foundation provides over $30 million annually in philanthropic support funded by Duke Energy shareholders. Duke Energy itself is a Fortune 150 company serving millions across several states with electric and gas utilities. The company focuses on energy transition through grid upgrades and cleaner generation sources.
