The Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation has announced a significant donation of $1.3 million to environmental nonprofits and K-12 schools across eight states, with a focus on environmental education and stewardship initiatives. A substantial portion of the donation, $475,000, was allocated to 45 organizations in Virginia.

Hunter A. Applewhite, president of the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation, expressed pride in supporting local organizations dedicated to safeguarding the environment and fostering sustainable communities. He stated, “These grants reflect our commitment to support meaningful projects in the areas we serve.”

The grants aim to improve accessibility at nature parks, implement educational programs on topics like honeybees, launch community conservation initiatives to promote recycling and wildlife conservation, and engage farmers in sustainable planting practices.

Among the projects funded by this year’s grants, Friends of Hollywood Cemetery will be restoring 4.5 acres of green space known as Long Bottom to enhance visitor accessibility. Meanwhile, Sustainable Chesapeake will work with farmers in Virginia to showcase innovative planting strategies through cover crops and farm field days.

The Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation’s support extends to a wide range of organizations in Virginia, including schools, environmental groups, and conservation associations. Recipients include the Virginia Living Museum, Keep Virginia Beautiful, and the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center Foundation, among many others.

The foundation’s commitment to community causes is evident through its generous contributions, with a total of $46.7 million donated in 2023. By supporting nonprofits that address basic human needs, protect the environment, promote education, and enhance community vitality, Dominion Energy is actively working towards a sustainable and thriving future for all.
