As the winter heating season approaches, Columbia Gas of Ohio is reminding customers about available assistance programs to help manage utility bills. The 2024-25 Special Reconnect Order (SRO) and Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) are designed to provide financial support during this period.
The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has outlined that from October 14, 2024, to April 18, 2025, the SRO will be accessible. This program allows customers facing disconnection or those already disconnected to restore service for $175. Additional reconnection fees apply, and participants must set up a payment plan for any outstanding balance.
HEAP offers a one-time benefit directly applied to utility bills for eligible customers with household incomes at or below 175 percent of federal poverty guidelines. This federally funded program is administered through the Ohio Department of Development and can be accessed via local community action agencies.
Columbia Gas also provides various payment plans to assist all customers in managing their utility expenses. Additionally, as heating systems are activated, safety precautions are emphasized.
