Columbia Gas of Ohio urges professional help for home natural gas projects during safety month

0Comments

Columbia Gas of Ohio is urging customers to avoid do-it-yourself repairs or installations involving natural gas equipment and lines during National Safety Month in June. The company emphasizes the importance of using qualified professionals for any work related to natural gas in homes.

“Whether you need a natural gas appliance tune-up or to address a house line concern, please do not attempt to do it yourself,” said Columbia Gas of Ohio President and COO Robert Heidorn. “Qualified natural gas professionals across Ohio can identify and remediate natural gas concerns safely, keeping your home and loved ones secure while maintaining your peace of mind.”

The utility company clarifies that it is responsible for inspecting and maintaining service lines up to the meter, including the meter itself. However, all lines from the meter into a home or business—referred to as house lines—are the responsibility of the customer.

Customers are encouraged to consult with qualified contractors when installing or servicing natural gas appliances. More information on safe installation practices can be found at ColumbiaGasOhio.com/safety/home-safety/appliance-safety/safe-appliance-installation, and a list of qualified contractors is available at ColumbiaGasOhio.com/safety/find-a-contractor.

Columbia Gas of Ohio provides natural gas service to about 1.5 million customers statewide. Headquartered in Columbus, it is Ohio’s largest natural gas utility and operates as one of six regulated utilities under NiSource (NYSE: NI). NiSource has set a goal to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions from its operations by 2040.
